A closing speech delivered by HH Princess Mashael Saud AlShalan, co-founder of AEONCollective and Chairwomen of Women & Energy Association, at the Women & Energy Diplomacy Leadership (WEDL) Forum.

In her address, Princess Mashael reminded the audience that leadership is not only about entering the future. It is also about remembering what made that future possible. Her remarks began from the present: a moment shaped not only by a crisis of trust, but by what she called a “crisis of limited imagination.” In times of uncertainty, she warned, people can forget both where they are able to go and where they have come from.

Princess Mashael challenged the idea that women’s leadership in Saudi Arabia began only recently. Women’s leadership, she reminded the audience, was never absent. It was often written in a different script — one that history did not always know how to read.
